America’s Got Talent: Sofia Vergara hugs members of the Mayyas group after mesmerizing dance routine

Sofia Vergara hugged the members of the Mayyas, an all-female Lebanese dance group, after they performed on Tuesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent.

The 50-year-old judge ran up onto the stage to embrace the group after they performed last during the two-hour episode on NBC.

‘Thirty-six women dancing as one,’ said Sofia of her Golden Buzzer pick. ‘It’s magic.’

The mesmerizing dance act wowed Sofia and the other judges as they all gave them a standing ovation along with the audience.

‘This is a performance that changes the world,’ Simon Cowell, 62, said. ‘Respect.’

‘If I could I would give them another Golden Buzzer,’ Sofia said.

‘I feel you are Vegas ready,’ Heidi Klum, 49, told the group.

Eleven acts competed on Tuesday for two spots in the finals and a chance to win the $1 million grand prize and the chance to headline a show in Las Vegas.

Kristen Cruz, 19, from Crawley, Texas, who made a name singing on TikTok, went first in the last batch of qualifiers before the finals. Kristen sang the Miley Cyrus song Nothing Breaks Like The Heart. The audience gave her a standing ovation when she finished.

‘I’m really curious who is your favorite singer,’ Simon asked. ‘Because listening to your voice then I was kind of thinking, you have almost a great country voice. I think, in my opinion, you chose the wrong song tonight.’

Heidi disagreed.

‘Your voice is fierce,’ Heidi said. ‘You are incredible.’

Mervant Vera, 33, a magician and rapper from Philadelphia, went next. He had host Terry Crews, 53, join him on stage and shuffle a deck of cards with words on them. He then made a freestyle rap with the words in the cards.

‘If you really just came up with that you are a genius,’ Heidi said.

‘You make magic so cool,’ Sofia said. ‘You are fantastic.’

‘You are the magical hip hop version of Tony Robbins,’ Howie said. ‘You are inspirational and authentic.’

Travis Japan, a boy band from Japan, performed an original song for their audition in sequined suits. Howie buzzed then and Heidi put her head in her hands.

‘You’ve got to hit some of the notes when you are singing the solos,’ Howie said. ‘They were really off. The notes. The rapping wasn’t good…If Liza Minnelli went to Japan and put together a boy band, this is what it would look like.’

‘If you were to rewind this performance and turn the volume off it would be great,’ Simon said. ‘Love the choreography. The song was awful.’

Simon said he still loved them, though.

‘The vocals today were a little bit bad,’ Sofia said. ‘I don’t think tonight was your night.’

Max Ostler, 18, from Sydney, Australia, who said he watched AGT as a young child, said he was ready to perform his dance routine before he took the stage. I danced to Ed Sheeran’s Castle On The Hill.

Simon, Heidi and Sofia gave him a standing ovation.

‘It was beautiful,’ Heidi said.

‘I tell you what Sofia is, it’s his talent and guts,’ Simon said. ‘The choreography was incredible.’

‘Regardless of what happens tonight, I think that Ed Sheeran should give you a call and you should do it live on stage with him,’ Howie said.

Wild card comedian Jordan Conley, 29, said he was so excited when they called him back to be on the show. Jordan started his act by sitting in the audience.

‘You are just lovable,’ Howie said. ‘You are likable and you are relatable and that’s all you need.’

‘I think you are very funny,’ Heidi said.

Kristy Sellars, from Ballarat, Australia, stunned the judges with her theatrical pole dancing act. She spun and moved from pole to pole. Simon looked blown away when she finished.

‘I loved it,’ Heidi said.

‘This was unbelievable,’ Simon said. ‘One of the most astonishingly brilliant, creative acts we have seen on the live show.’

‘As a grown man who has spent many hours watching pole dancing, finally a pole dancer who I can bring the entire family to see,’ Howie said.

From Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Blade 2 Blade did their dangerous knife throwing act. They threw flaming knives at each other while blindfolded.

‘I really love this act because I hate it at the same time,’ Sofia said.

‘It’s like watching a horror movie, you shouldn’t like it but you do,’ Simon said. ‘This was a Vegas act. Don’t question.’

Urbancrew, a dance crew from the Philippines, flipped and danced in unison holding hula hoops on stage. They also flipped through the air jumping through the hoops.

‘This made me feel amazing,’ Simon said. ‘That is what I call a ten.’

‘That was the most exciting, most entertaining act of the night,’ Howie said.

‘You went all out tonight,’ Sofia said.

Singer Aubrey Burchell from Pittsburgh, who works at a Target store, performed Love Bites. She stunned in a one-shoulder dress. All the judges gave her a standing ovation when she finished.

‘I loved the song,’ Heidi said. ‘I think your career as a singer is just starting.’

‘You sounded amazing,’ Sofia said.

‘I think you are really cool and really interesting,’ Simon said. ‘You did brilliant.’

Yo Yo competitor Shu Takada from Yokohama, Japan, went next. He flipped and danced on stage while spinning his yo-yo’s.

‘I’m looking over to my eight-year-old son Eric and he just gave you two thumbs up,’ Simon said. ‘From the Cowell family, we would like to give you four thumbs up because you are a true world champion.’

‘You definitely make yo-yo’s cool,’ Sofia said.

‘Kudos, to the amount of hours you spent in your room playing with your yo-yo,’ Howie said.

America’s Got Talent will return on Wednesday on NBC with a results episode.
